What if a painting could understand how a room full of people was feeling, and paint itself in response? That question started as a 2022 experiment for Murdoch University and is still evolving today.
The idea
Word clouds tell you what people said. I wanted something that showed how they felt. Paint With Your Mind listens to what people say, reads the emotion behind it, and decides what colours, shapes and motion to use. It's kind of like a word cloud, but it's more art than chart.
Taking it to Scitech
In October 2026 I took it to Scitech in Perth. A room full of kids called out whatever came into their heads (my favourite was "ice cream robots") and watched the painting work it out in real time. Kids treated it like magic, which is exactly the point.
Where it's going
The project keeps growing. It works brilliantly at events, launches and anywhere a crowd wants to see itself reflected back. If you'd like it at yours, get in touch.
