A painting that paints itself?

I had such a blast yesterday at Scitech, creating a painting live with a room full of super lively kids using nothing but their thoughts and ideas.
no paints, no crayons… and the best part? no messy clean up.
Just kids shouting out whatever popped into their heads and watching a painting paint itself… it’s pretty neat. it figures out what colours, shapes and movement to use based on whatever they shouted at it.
We chatted about creativity, technology and how to figure out which ideas are actually worth making…
But my personal fave idea of the day?
When a little girl shouted out: “Ice cream robots”
On my drive home, I kept thinking about how cool it is talking to kids. There’s something incredibly inspiring about a room full of young minds who haven’t yet learned to think in impossibilities.
The image below is just a small cut from the painting as the kids were sharing their ideas and watching it translate and paint their thoughts live.
I love how colourful, light and bright their thoughts turned out to be.

I reckon “ice cream robot” is probably a good name for how it turned out.
Here’s some of the thoughts…

A huge thanks to Scitech and Michael Sequeira for inviting me out and giving me the opportunity to share something I care a lot about.
And parents… if you’re looking for something fun and educational to do with the kiddos this holidays, checkout Scitech. They’ve got heaps of new fun hands-on activities running over the break! We all enjoyed it so much… nobody wanted to leave.

Also, if you run events and are looking for something a little different, I’ve built this painting that paints itself while you (or a bunch of people) talk to it. It’s kinda like a word cloud thing, but it’s more art than chart.
And it’s not just for kids, this one looked like kids colouring… because that’s who was talking to it. It’d be fun to experiment with see how what different audiences create. Anyway, if that sorta thing sounds fun, shoot me line on my website.
